New Home Purchase Planned Following Lottery Win

A midmorning break from work, coupled with a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket, is resulting in a new house for a St. Louis resident.

On the morning of April 30, Willie Yates Jr., a cabinetmaker by trade, took a break from work to play a $5 “Black Ice” Scratchers ticket that he purchased from Meraj Petroleum, 3605 S. Broadway, in St. Louis. By the time Yates returned to work, he had uncovered a top prize in the game and was $100,000 richer.

While claiming the prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on May 7, Yates said he plans to use the money to pay off a few bills, but the big planned expenditure for the $100,000 prize is to purchase a house.
Introduced on March 27, 2017, “Black Ice” is a $5 Scratchers ticket with prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000. Yates claimed one of five top prizes available in the game. “Black Ice” currently has more than $4.8 million in total prizes remaining.
