St. Louis Man Claims $1 Million Scratchers Prize

James Andrychuk of St. Louis is the type of Scratchers player who focuses on one ticket. For him, that ticket is “$300 Million Cash Explosion,” which he said he plays every now and then. In his case, that singular focus paid off in the form of a $1 million prize.

“I’m not one of those guys that just scratches it and scans it,” Andrychuk explained. “You’ve got to have some fun with it.”

On Jan. 26, Andrychuk bought a “$300 Million Cash Explosion” Scratchers ticket from Schnuck’s, 10650 Olive Boulevard, in St. Louis. After scratching only his numbers and not the prizes, Andrychuk said he saw one “dollar bill” symbol and assumed that he had won his money back. After scratching further, however, he discovered a $1 million prize.

After realizing the size of the prize he had won, Andrychuk said he decided to have some fun telling his wife.

“I walked up and showed it to her, and I said, ‘I think this might be good,’” he shared. “She looked at it and said, ‘Ok, what does this mean?’”

After telling her that the “dollar bill” symbol indicates winning the prize below, Andrychuk said his wife was shocked.

“She said, ‘Did we just win a million dollars?’” he recalled.

This was indeed the case, as Andrychuk confirmed after presenting the ticket at a Missouri Lottery office the following Monday. He said the winnings will be used to eliminate debt and to invest.

Introduced on April 30, 2018, “$300 Million Cash Explosion” is a $30 Scratchers ticket. Andrychuk claimed one of twelve $1 million prizes in the game. Nine additional $1 million prizes remain unclaimed, as well as two top prizes of $10 million.
