What he first thought to be a $3,000 prize turned out to be one of the game’s $55,558 top prizes for Columbia resident Garry Johnson, who purchased a Missouri Lottery “Bingo Gold” ticket at Moser’s Food, 705 Business Loop 70 W., in Columbia.

“When I took another look at the ticket, I realized it was the top prize,” said a smiling Johnson. “I called my daughter immediately to share the news.”

Johnson relayed that he was eager to get to a Missouri Lottery office to claim his prize.

“I saw that I won on Friday,” Johnson said. “I had to keep my ticket safe over the weekend, and I came into the office as soon as I could on Monday.”

Johnson explained that he enjoys playing the Bingo and Crossword Scratchers over his lunch breaks, because they take more time to play and provide a fun distraction during the day.

Introduced on May 23, “Bingo Gold” is a $3 Scratchers ticket with prizes ranging from $3 to $55,558. The game is played similarly to real Bingo; players win by matching columns, rows, or diagonal lines of numbers on their bingo card to the numbers revealed on the “Caller’s Card.” Johnson claimed one of five $55,558 top prizes. More than $5.5 million in prizes are still available, including three $55,558 top prizes.

In the most recent fiscal year, more than $57.4 million went to education programs in Boone County based on Lottery sales. Additionally, players in Boone County won more than $19.2 million in prizes, and retailers received $1.8 million in incentives during the same period.
