Karen Karcher likes to see moneybags or, more precisely, the moneybag symbols found on a Missouri Lottery “10X the Money” Scratchers ticket. Luck was on her side when the ticket she purchased at Discount Smoke, 6920 Chippewa St. in St. Louis, revealed the game’s top prize of $100,000.
“I usually don’t have the money,” she laughed, referring to her only periodic purchase of Lottery tickets. “Sometimes I’ll play the $1 or the $2 tickets, but I don’t usually buy the $5 ones.”
Her “random” decision to go for the $5 ticket on Oct. 26 was a good move for the Hillsboro woman.
Thinking she’d probably win about $20 when she first began scratching the ticket, it soon became evident that her spur-of-the-moment purchase was worth a lot more.
“I scratched more off, and it was more zeros,” she said. “Then I got another moneybag.”
Cheers from a friend in the car added to Karcher’s excitement level.
“He said, ‘Keep scratching. It’s a big one. I know it’s a big one!,’” she recalled.
