'Miracle' Mother's Day Gift Comes Early for Ozark Foster Mom
Mother’s Day might be more than a month away, but an Ozark foster mother is celebrating early with a $50,000 win on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. Fifty-nine-year-old Elizabeth West, who has three teenagers to support, explained that they’ve “all been praying for a miracle.”
“This is a miracle,” said West, who added that all she could do was “stare in shock” at the winning “Bonus Word Crossword” ticket she bought at Plaza Gas, 640 E. South St., in Ozark.
“At first, I thought that I only won $20,” she recalled, noting that after looking closer at her ticket, she realized that “the words kept going.”
West secured the ticket inside of her address book for safekeeping, and then she called her sister Rebecca to share the news.
“I was scared I was going to lose it,” she said with a laugh of relief, while claiming her prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office.
Plans for the prize money include paying bills and helping her mother with home renovations.
“Bonus Word Crossword
” is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000 that officially started on Jan. 5.
