Out of hundreds of submissions, 10 Missourians were selected as winners of the Missouri Lottery’s 2013 “The Best Thing About My Town” calendar photo contest. Matthew Darnaby of Joplin won the grand prize for his photograph of a unique round barn, which will be featured on the calendar’s cover. Along with winning the $500 grand prize, a second photo by Darnaby was designated as a monthly winner, earning him $100 worth of Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets.

A total of nine other Missouri photographers, whose photographs were chosen as monthly winners, also received $100 in Scratchers tickets. All winners will receive a copy of the calendar and a photo credit.

“We were impressed by the quality of photos we received,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “It was a difficult decision, but we narrowed down our selections to a great group of photographs that we’re excited to showcase in the 2013 calendar.”

Reardon explained that calendars are distributed to nearly 5,000 Missouri Lottery retailers for onsite display.
