A West Plains man is the 68th Missourian to become an instant millionaire, thanks to the Missouri Lottery. Eddie Guy was elevated to that honor after buying a “$1,000,000 Payout” Scratchers ticket at Snappy Mart, 1671 S. Highway 63, in West Plains. Guy, 64, said he was running errands about town with his wife, Nina, on their daughter’s birthday when they bought the winning ticket, scratching it off later at home.
“Well, I couldn’t quite believe it, but it was,” Guy said in describing the moment he discovered the prize. “I didn’t jump around or do a dance or nothing.”
In fact, they waited a few days before claiming the prize. Guy finished his shifts at Invensys in West Plains before taking the ticket to the Springfield Lottery office on Oct. 26. Although he’s started drawing Social Security, he also said he’ll keep working.
“I figure I’ll work as long as I can. That will still make it nice when we do actually decide to hang it up,” he declared.
Guy said they would “pay a couple of items off” with the windfall.
“After that, I don’t know. Most of it will probably stay in savings,” he added.
While they don’t play the Lottery very often, Guy said that he and Nina had won prizes of $1,000 before and would continue to play.
“$1,000,000 Payout” is a $10 game that officially began Jan. 10. Guy claimed the third top prize of four in the game and became the 350th Missouri Lottery millionaire overall. More than $11 million in prizes, including one top prize, remain.
