Sharon Montgomery of St. Louis has her dog to thank for a Missouri Lottery Club Keno prize on New Year’s Day. She said her dog, Belle, wanted to go for a ride. Since not much was open, Montgomery steered into QuikTrip, 8000 Watson Road in St. Louis, where she bought a Keno To Go ticket that would be worth $51,278.
“So, I went in there, and I played a couple of games of Keno, but I just did a 2-Spot and a 4-Spot and didn’t win anything,” Montgomery began. “And then I thought, ‘Well, it’s Tuesday, so I’m going to do my Mega Millions.’ I was ready to leave the store, and I thought, ‘Let me do just one more ticket.’”
When she went to fill out a playslip, Montgomery said the six and seven caught her eye. She decided to play a 7-Spot ticket with numbers ending with six or seven.
“I played for two games, and I always do the Multiplier, because it’s a good thing,” she explained. “And then I went home and didn’t check it until this morning.”
Her numbers came up. She won a $51,278 prize on her new lucky numbers: 7, 26, 27, 36, 37, 46 and 47.
“I’m still a little bit shocked,” said Montgomery, while claiming her prize on Jan. 2. “It’s not going to be real for me until I get the check!”
She plans to “pay bills” and help her family with the windfall. The 58-year-old said she might plan a trip with her sisters, but she’ll keep working her full-time job for now. Montgomery does plan to retire from her part-time job of delivering newspapers.
When it comes to playing the Lottery, she’ll continue mixing up her numbers on Keno.
“It’s my favorite game, actually,” she said about Keno. “I also like the Mega (Millions), that’s my other favorite. And Show Me (Cash).
“This was a 7-Spot. I might play it as a 5-Spot, or… you never know,” she continued. “Like, I just had a feeling about sixes and sevens, and that was very lucky for me, so I’m open to other combinations, too.”
She suggested other Lottery players listen to their hunches.
“Never give up – you just never know,” she offered. “Play your hunches, because that’s what I did.”
Club Keno is a daily Draw Game with drawings every four minutes. Players choose how many numbers, or spots, to play, and have a variety of play options, like Multiplier, Bulls-Eye and Double Bulls-Eye. Originally only available in age-controlled environments, Club Keno is now available at any Missouri Lottery retail location as Keno To Go.
