It might’ve been raining yesterday throughout most of mid-Missouri, but a Camdenton man’s day began with a metaphorical ray of sunshine and stayed that way, thanks to uncovering a $10,000 Missouri Lottery prize. Fifty-five-year-old Jackie Murphy, owner of Murphy’s Heating and Cooling, made a trip to Jiffy Stop, 641 W. Highway 54 in Camdenton, on his way to work for his usual order of “coffee, gas and a Lottery ticket.” He “was tickled to death” when he discovered he’d won $10,000 on a “$1,000,000 Classic Cash” Scratchers game.
“I went to the shop first with my ticket and it was raining,” Murphy began. “So, I was sitting in front of the shop waiting for the rain to slow down, and I thought, ‘Well, I’ll scratch my ticket.’ When I scratched it off, I thought it was just $5.”
While claiming his prize, he recalled the moment he realized he’d won a bit more than a few dollars.
“I was like, ‘That’s it!’ I didn’t even open the shop,” he beamed. “I just went straight home and then decided to come straight here.”
Luckily, the father-of-eight had about an hour of drive time from his home to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, because he “called the family” to share the news on the way.
“They couldn’t believe I won,” he noted.
As for how he’ll use the windfall, he already has a plan.
“I bought some property last year, so I’m planning on using it to put in my foundation to start the house,” he shared.
“$1,000,000 Classic Cash” is a $10 game with a top prize of $1 million. To date, three top prizes and thousands of prizes, ranging from $10 to $100,000, remain in play.
