Osage Beach Bartenders Win Club Keno

Two bar managers at the Lake of the Ozarks were blowing off steam with friends after a busy summer season and won a bonus from the Missouri Lottery. J.J. Gladden, 29, and Mike Swift, 29, both of Osage Beach, were playing Club Keno at Woody’s Tavern & Sports Bar, 5834 Osage Beach Parkway, in Osage Beach. They matched seven out of eight spots on a 8-Spot ticket with Bulls-Eye to win a $1,800 prize.

“We played one game of Keno,” recalled Gladden, who is originally from Versailles. “The bartender looked over and said, ‘You guys just won $1,800.’”

Unphased and focused on the jukebox, Swift replied, “Cool.”

The friends and co-workers were joined by suitemates Shawn “Sugarfree” and Nadia Alakayalh on the trip to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City. Swift and Gladden split the $1,800 prize evenly and pledged to spend a little at “Love Sushi” while in town. Beyond that, plans were unknown, in more ways than one.

“I’d like to save a little bit,” declared Gladden. “This is the best shift I’ve had all weekend!”

Gladden works at Backwater Jack’s, and Swift works at Shady Gators. As the lake season comes to a close, all of the friends are considering warmer climates for the winter.

“Last season, each of them were in Key West, and I went to the Virgin Islands,” Gladden said. “I know we probably sound like a train wreck, but we’re actually quite good at what we do.”

Wherever they end up, most likely they’ll be back to the Lake next summer, playing the Missouri Lottery.

“I love Club Keno,” Gladden said.

Club Keno is a daily Draw Game with drawings every four minutes. Players choose how many numbers, or spots, to play and win prizes based on the number of matches. Traditionally only available in social environments, tickets can be purchased at any Missouri Lottery retail location as Keno To Go.
