Work at Osage Beach Glass might slow a little in the winter, but one employee got a $25,000 payday thanks to the Missouri Lottery. Edwin Putnam of Kaiser said that work had already begun to pick up for the season when he located his big win. He bought a “$25,000 Payday” Scratchers ticket on a break from work on Feb. 26 at Jiffy Stop Food Mart, 389 Highway 42, in Kaiser. He shared the winning moment with the clerk.

“I went out to the truck and scratched it off,” recalled Putnam. “I scratched off the winning numbers, and then I scratched off my first number and it matched. All of them down, they all matched. I scratched off the first number, and it was $500. I said, ‘Wait, a minute. I’ve got something here.’ I went back inside and said, ‘Neil, you’ve got to watch this.’”

With his friend watching on, Putnam uncovered prizes adding up to $25,000. Naturally, everyone was excited.

“I was shaking,” said Putnam. “I was literally standing there shaking. And the first thing Neil told me to do was sign the ticket.”

Putnam called his wife, and then convinced his boss that he really did have a winning ticket. Unable to concentrate on anything else, he and Leigh drove to Jefferson City to claim the prize.

Plans for the windfall include “catching up on bills.” Putnam also began to lobby Leigh for another Harley-Davidson® motorcycle on the trip to Lottery headquarters. Beyond that, he’ll keep playing the Lottery.

“Keep playing,” he counseled other players. “You can’t win if you don’t play.”

$25,000 Payday” is a $2 game that officially began Feb. 3. Putnam claimed the first of seven top prizes available in the game. More than $7 million in prizes remain. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
