$50,000 Powerball Winner Had to ‘Double and Triple Check’

Dec. 20, 2024

As he was checking the Powerball ticket he purchased at QuikTrip, 7920 E. 171st St. in Belton, a Missouri Lottery player saw a message come up on screen he had never seen before – a foreshadowing of what was to come.

“It said something about checking with the retailer, so I go up to the counter and I have them print off the winning numbers,” he said.

He recalled doing a double take as he looked at the numbers from the Dec. 7 drawing.

“I saw that I got four numbers and the Powerball and I didn’t know exactly what I won, but I was getting excited!” he said.

Matching four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number, meant he had won a $50,000 prize.

“I had to double and triple check it, but it was there!” he joked.

He added that he already has big plans for the money.

“It’s going to go right into the fund for my new company,” he said.

The winning numbers for Dec. 7 were 1, 31, 43, 55 and 57, with a Powerball number of 22.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY24, players in Cass County won more than $16.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $1.5 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $7.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
