A Missouri Lottery player in Jefferson County relied on a friend to confirm he had a winning ticket after uncovering a $50,000 prize on a “Christmas Countdown” Scratchers game.
“I thought I was losing my mind, so I FaceTimed a buddy who’s won big before,” the winner explained. “I said, ‘Please, look this over. Am I seeing something wrong here? Did I win $5,000? Did I win $50,000?’
“He said, ‘Dude, you just won $50,000!’
“My family all freaked out, like, ‘No way!’” he laughed. “It was definitely a fun experience. I mean, you won the Lottery! That’s something people dream about.”
He purchased the lucky ticket at Circle K, 1199 Scenic Drive, in Herculaneum.
The winner plans to use some of the winnings to take a family trip to Florida.
In FY24, players in Jefferson County won more than $40.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $3.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $2.7 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
