Having a little time on his hands before meeting a friend, a Missouri Lottery player stopped for a drink at Quick Go, 3625 Athena School Road, in De Soto. What happened next would bring him a prize worth $50,000.
As he went to pay, he noticed the Lottery display with the new holiday Scratchers games, and he asked for one of the $10 “Christmas Countdown” tickets.
“It was a crazy day,” the winner began. “If I hadn’t forgotten my sunglasses the day before, I would not have been meeting my friend in that part of the state to pick them up.”
“I had planned to wait until later to scratch the ticket,” he continued. “Traffic was pretty backed up, so I went ahead and scratched it after leaving the store.”
The results left him speechless.
“I couldn’t talk, I was so shocked!” he laughed. “I called my wife and reread the instructions on the ticket to make sure I had really won!”
Players of “Christmas Countdown” have claimed over $957,000 in prizes since the game’s release on Oct. 14. Over $15.7 million in prizes remain unclaimed – including two top prizes of $200,000 and four additional $50,000 prizes.
In FY24, players in Jefferson County won more than $40.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $3.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $2.7 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
