A Lotto player was thrilled to discover the free Show Me Cash ticket he received on Oct. 16 as part of the Missouri Lottery’s “Missouri Day” one-day promotion was a winning jackpot ticket.
“I usually play the Lotto and stopped to buy a $5 ticket,” the winner shared.
The clerk at Break Time, 805 N. Missouri St. in Macon, handed him his Lotto ticket, as well as a Show Me Cash promotional ticket. At first, he didn’t know why he received the additional ticket, not realizing his $5 Lotto ticket was a qualifying purchase to receive a free Show Me Cash play.
“I haven’t been playing Show Me Cash recently, but she said it was part of a one-day promotion,” he explained.
That was on a Wednesday. It would take another five days before he learned he had a ticket worth $50,000.
“I didn’t check my tickets until Monday night, so I didn’t know I had won!” he shared. “It said to contact the Lottery to claim the prize.”
He quickly understood he was holding a jackpot ticket.
“I checked it two or three times and it said the same thing!” he exclaimed. “I knew if you matched four numbers it was $250, so I knew it had to be the top prize!”
Show Me Cash is drawn daily at 8:59 p.m. with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until won. Tonight’s jackpot is estimated at $65,000.
In FY24, players in Macon County won more than $2.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $229,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $135,000 in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
