For a lucky Missouri Lottery player, a routine trip to get gas at Murphy Oil, 1224 South Madison St. in Webb City, turned into a $50,000 top prize on a “Crossword Plus” Scratchers ticket.
“I always go there to get my gas,” the winner said. “It was actually the last day they were open before they closed to remodel the store.”
She said she instantly began shaking as she scratched the winning ticket.
“I was excited at first because I thought I won $500, but then I saw the $50,000 and I started shaking so bad!” she said.
Unsure if what she was seeing was real, she quickly scanned the ticket to verify her win.
“I thought I was going to fall through the floor!” she said. “It was a blessing.”
"Crossword Plus” players have won over $5.7 million in prizes so far. There are currently over $9.8 million in unclaimed prizes, including six more top prizes of $50,000.
Players who purchased tickets in Jasper County in FY24 won more than $15 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers received more than $1.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs in the county received more than $3.5 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
