A Missouri Lottery player scratched her way to a $50,000 top prize on a “Crossword Plus” Scratchers ticket she purchased at Discount Smoke Shop, 4348 Loughborough Ave., in St. Louis.
“I don’t play the lottery often,” the winner explained. “I like Crossword puzzle books and thought this might be a fun ticket to try.”
After scratching the ticket, she began counting the number of words she had uncovered. She was surprised when she counted 11 words, quickly realizing her prize total increased with each word revealed.
“I double-checked it and double-checked it again!” she added.
“Crossword Plus” players have claimed over $1.4 million in prizes since the $3 ticket was released in September. Over $14.2 million in prizes remain unclaimed, including eight additional $50,000 prizes and 30 $5,000 prizes.
In FY24, players in the City of St. Louis won more than $45 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $4.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $36.9 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the city.
