A quick stop to get money out of an ATM turned into a big win when a Missouri Lottery player decided to purchase a “$5,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket at Circle K, 1060 Main St., in Imperial.
“I had to pull money out because I was buying something off Facebook Marketplace, and I broke the $100 by buying the game,” the winner said.
She took the $50 ticket home to scratch, not knowing a huge surprise awaited her.
“I always scratch the ticket randomly because it keeps it more interesting,” she said. “So I didn’t know what I had won right away.”
As she continued scratching it, she kept seeing larger prizes pop up.
“I had to stop scratching it when I hit $20,000 because I just kept thinking there was no way it was real!” she shared.
All told, her prizes added up to a total of $50,000.
“It was so exciting!” she said.
So far, “$5,000,000 Fortune” players have won over $69.4 million in prizes playing the $50 game. There are currently over $183.1 million in unclaimed prizes, including two top prizes of $5 million and three $1 million prizes.
In FY24, players in Jefferson County won more than $40.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $3.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $2.7 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
