While grocery shopping at Dierbergs, 217 Salt Lick Road in St. Charles, a Missouri Lottery player purchased a “$1,000,000 Winnings” Scratchers ticket that held one of the game’s $50,000 prizes.
He didn’t learn he had won right away, though.
“It was raining, so I stuck the ticket in my back pocket,” the winner explained. “I forgot it was there until I stopped later to get gas.”
As he was standing at the gas station counter, he found the ticket in his pocket and began scratching it. The first spot he uncovered revealed a $5,000 prize.
“I looked at the clerk and said, ‘I think I just won $5,000!’”
He quickly realized he was mistaken.
“I didn’t win $5,000,” he added. “I ended up winning $50,000!”
Players have won over $11 million since the $10 “$1,000,000 Winnings” ticket was released in late July. Over $22.7 million in prizes remain unclaimed in the game – including a top prize of $1million and three additional $50,000 prizes.
In FY24, players in St. Charles County won more than $68.2 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $16.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
