While stocking up on groceries at Walmart, 3301 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters, a passing thought inspired a Missouri Lottery player to make a life changing purchase.
“It was kind of on a whim,” the player said. “I just bought one of those ’500X’ tickets, and that was it.”
Once he had scratched off the ticket, he admits he didn’t immediately realize he had won the $1 million prize.
“I saw the multiplier and then I had to add it all up like 12 different times!” he joked.
After checking the numbers a dozen or so odd times, he still couldn’t believe his eyes.
“It was shock. I didn’t know what to do,” he said.
“500X” players have won more than $155.2 million in prizes on the $50 game. Over $102.3 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including one top prize of $5 million.
In FY24, players in St. Charles County won more than $68.2 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $16.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
