Extra Grocery Stop Ends with $1 Million Scratchers Win

Dec. 10, 2024

An unplanned stop at Hy-Vee, 625 S.W. 40 Highway in Blue Springs, led a Missouri Lottery player to a $1 million Scratchers prize.

“It’s kind of a funny story,” the winner shared. “If my regular grocery store wasn’t out of a few things I needed, I wouldn’t have stopped and bought that ticket!”

She said the “$1,000,000 Black Diamond” game had caught her attention, leading to the lucky purchase. She soon realized the “shiny pretty ticket” held one of the game’s $1 million prizes, making her the 40th Missouri Lottery player to win $1 million or more this year.

Overall, “$1,000,000 Black Diamond” players have won more than $23.7 million in prizes since the game was released earlier this year.

In FY24, players in Jackson County won more than $109.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.8 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $22 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
