While his wife was in the kitchen preparing dinner, a Missouri Lottery player busied himself looking up the winning numbers from the Aug. 16 Show Me Cash drawing.
He had purchased a ticket from Merello Convenience, 10901 Old Halls Ferry Road in St. Louis, for the drawing using numbers he picked himself.
“Whatever hits my mind is what I use whenever I play,” he said. “And this time was just lucky!”
Sitting at his computer, he read off the winning numbers. All five numbers drawn – 5, 6, 32, 33 and 39 – matched the numbers had had chosen, winning the night’s jackpot prize of $139,000.
His wife heard him yell from their den and went to find him.
“I heard him just start going, ‘Oh my god!’” she said. “He had the numbers up on the computer screen, and he had the ticket there and I went into the kitchen and told our daughter, ‘Your father hit the doggone Show Me Cash!’” she said.
Show Me Cash is drawn daily at 8:59 p.m., with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until won. Tonight’s jackpot is estimated at $256,000.
Players who purchased tickets in St. Louis in FY23 won more than $207.7 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers received more than $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs in the county received more than $76 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
