While driving home from a self-described bad day at work, a Missouri Lottery player decided to stop at Conoco, 8695 Veterans Parkway in O’Fallon, to treat herself to a soda and a “$5,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket.
“It was a Friday and it was kind of a crummy day, and so I decided to stop in there,” she explained.
However, things quickly began to turn around once she got home and played her ticket. As she started uncovering its numbers and symbols, she realized she had won one of three $5 million top prizes offered in the game.
“I was just like, ‘Is this real?’” she said. “I called my son to let him take a look.”
Her son, also in disbelief, thought there was no way the ticket was real.
“He told me it was fake!” she laughed. “But after I settled down a little and looked at it again, I knew it was real!”
So far, “$5,000,000 Fortune” players have won over $98.1 million in prizes. There are currently over $154.3 million remaining in unclaimed prizes, including one more top prize of $5 million, three $1 million prizes and 26 prizes of $50,000.
In FY24, players in St. Charles County won more than $68.2 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $16.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
