A Missouri Lottery player who thought he won a $4 Powerball prize was surprised when a clerk told him otherwise.
"It was a week or so after the drawing,” the winner recalled. “I normally check all the numbers here at home but, that one time, all I checked was the Powerball."
Under the impression he had won $4 by matching only the Powerball, he returned to Casey’s, 100 N. Highway 71 in Adrian, with his ticket.
“It was interesting,” he shared. “The clerks at Casey's said they'd known for a few days that someone had one. When I turned the ticket in, the young lady whispered, 'You won $50,000!'"
His ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, in the April 17 drawing. The winning numbers were 24, 29, 44, 47 and 54, with a Powerball of 2.
"I guess I should start checking all the numbers," he laughed after claiming his prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office on May 13.
Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Saturday’s jackpot is estimated at $120 million.
Players who purchased tickets in Bates County in FY23 won more than $1.9 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $195,000 in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $650,000 in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
