While browsing Facebook, a Missouri Lottery player’s daughter spotted a post announcing that Hy-Vee Gas, 1215 S. Main St. in Maryville, had sold a ticket that won $50,000 in the Feb. 5 Powerball drawing.
“She knew that I had stopped there for gas the night before,” the winner explained. “I checked my numbers, and that was it!”
Her Quick Pick ticket – which matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number – was the ticket mentioned in the post, though she almost didn’t believe it at first.
“She was reading off the numbers, and I was going, ‘Yes, yes, yes,’ and she was like, ‘Do you know what this means?’” she said.
As for what she plans to do with the money, she said she already has an idea.
"I’ve thought about getting solar panels on the roof of my house, so I think I’ll do that,” she shared.
The winning numbers on Feb. 5 were 1, 2, 27, 30 and 67, with a Powerball number of 9.
Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.
In FY23, players in Nodaway County won more than $1.4 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $156,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $3.9 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
