Friends Split $50,000 Powerball Prize

Jan. 12, 2024

Taking note of a growing Powerball jackpot, a group of three friends purchased a ticket at QuikTrip, 290 E. 4th St. in Eureka, for the Dec. 20 drawing. The decision turned out to be worth $50,000.

“Usually when it’s over $200 million, we buy tickets together,” one of the winners said.

A Quick Pick ticket they bought matched four of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number.

“I had called one of the other people I played with, and he told me about the $50,000 winner,” he said. “And I just went, ‘You’re kidding me!’ But he was right.”

He added that it still took a while to sink in.

“I didn’t believe it until we went and verified it,” he said.

The winning numbers on Dec. 20 were 27, 35, 41, 56 and 60 with a Powerball number of 16.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $76 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
