A gift swap between friends and family led a Missouri Lottery player to a $100,000 top prize on a “Holiday Riches” Scratchers ticket.
The winning ticket was bought at Autobahn, 7538 N.W. Prairie View Road in Platte Woods, but the winner received the ticket as a gift during a gift exchange.
“I scratched it off and I looked at it and thought it was a $1,000, and I was pretty happy with that,” the winner said.
But after a few members of the group looked over the ticket, the winner was floored when she realized she actually won $100,000.
She claimed her prize in late January at the Missouri Lottery’s Kansas City regional office.
Plans for the money include renovations to her home.
In FY23, players in Platte County won more than $15.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received more than $1.3 million in Lottery commissions and bonuses. Over $1 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
