Leftover Change Brings $1 Million Lotto Prize

While making a quick pit stop at Price Chopper, 1304 N. 7 Highway in Blue Springs, a Missouri Lottery player used his spare change to purchase a Lotto ticket for the June 15 drawing – a decision that would result in a $1 million Lotto jackpot prize.

“I was picking up a few things and got some change back, so I went to the machine and bought a Lotto ticket,” he said.

The day after the drawing, he was checking his ticket when he saw a message he had never seen before.

“I was scanning the ticket with the app, and it was an odd response,” the player said. “It just said that I’ve won and to check with a retailer.”

Intrigued, he told his wife he was going to have his ticket checked at a Missouri Lottery retailer.

“The clerk took the ticket and scanned it, and the machine started making all sorts of noise! It was like a musical cacophony,” he said with a laugh.

Once he realized his numbers matched all the numbers drawn, he said he was stunned.

“I was just shocked,” he shared. “I’ve never won something like that.”

His ticket matched all six winning numbers – 3, 9, 15, 27, 33 and 35 – to win the jackpot prize. Another ticket also matched all six numbers in the June 15 drawing, so the two players split the $2 million prize. The other winning ticket was purchased at Trex Mart 2, 15590 Highway 92, in Tracy.

Lotto is an in-state Draw Game, with drawings held every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 8:59 p.m. Saturday’s Lotto jackpot is estimated at $1.4 million.

In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
