The winner of a $1 million Mega Millions prize knew something good was about to happen when she checked her ticket for the April 12 drawing and was told to claim the prize at a Missouri Lottery office.
“I went and scanned it at the little machine off to the side, and it said ‘Claim at Lottery Office.’” the winner said. “I was like, ‘Oh. I must have won a big amount if they won’t tell me.’”
To double check, she took the ticket to the clerk at the front counter.
“She told me, ‘I can’t tell you this amount, ma’am. There’s too many people here.’” she shared. “I was so excited. I was shaking.”
Her Quick Pick ticket matched the five white-ball numbers drawn – 1, 12, 14, 18 and 66 – just missing the Mega Ball number of 16. The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip, 391 N. Main St., in St. Peters.
Mega Millions is a multi-state game that costs $2 per play with drawings held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m. Friday’s estimated jackpot is $228 million.
In FY23, players in St. Charles County won more than $63.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers received over $6.4 in commissions and bonuses, while more than $6.3 million went to educational programs in the county.
