News Story Saves $1 Million Powerball Ticket from Trashcan

Nov. 12, 2024

While scrolling through his phone, a Missouri Lottery player saw a news story about a $1 million winning Powerball ticket sold at FastLane, 6725 Highway 6, in Taylor. The headline jogged his memory that he had purchased a ticket for the Oct. 26 drawing at that location.

“I was actually about to throw it away!” he said. “And then I thought maybe I should check this one.”

Once he checked the Quick Pick ticket, he was floored to see he had won the $1 million prize by matching all five white-ball numbers drawn.

He told his wife right away, even though she didn’t believe him at first.

“I was in shock,” she said. “I actually thought he was joking!”

The winning numbers for Oct. 26 were 8, 12, 40, 45 and 51, with a Powerball number of 15.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY24, players in Marion County won more than $6.9 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $705,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $832,000 in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
