A stop for Casey’s pizza in Potosi led to a $100,000 prize when a Missouri Lottery player asked his wife to also pick up a Powerball ticket with Power Play for the March 2 drawing.
The player matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, to earn a base prize of $50,000. Because he also added the Power Play option – a multiplier feature that allows players to increase their original prize amount anywhere from two to 10 times – his prize was automatically doubled when the Power Play number drawn was 2.
At first, he thought he had only won $200.
“I thought I had three white balls and the Powerball,” the player said. “I looked again. I guess what I was doing was making sure I had the three white balls and then I quit looking.”
He said he carried the ticket around for about a week before scanning it to verify the amount of his prize.
“I always check them, but I’m not in a big hurry to check them,” he shared.
He plans to put the prize money into a savings account.
The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s, 403 N. Missouri in Potosi. The winning numbers on March 2 were 3, 18, 27, 36 and 53 with a Powerball of 12.
Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $1.23 billion.
In FY23, players in Washington County received more than $4.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received over $470,000 in commissions and bonuses. Educational programs in the county received over $560,000.
