Powerball Player Wins $50,000 Prize While Home for Christmas

Jan. 09, 2024

While visiting family for Christmas, a Missouri Lottery player decided to purchase a Powerball ticket at QuikTrip, 8600 Pleasant Valley Road, in Pleasant Valley. Little did she know it would be the highlight of her holiday.

“It was just random. I had won $25 on a Scratchers ticket and went in and got two Powerball tickets,” the winner said.

When she realized her ticket for the Dec. 25 drawing matched four out of five white-ball numbers drawn, as well at the Powerball number, she was shocked.

“I didn’t believe anyone, and then I cried!” she said. “I told them they were all lying to me!”

She said she’s still trying to grasp the win.

“It still doesn’t feel real,” she added.

The winning numbers on Dec. 25 were 5, 12, 20, 24 and 29 with a Powerball number of 4.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY23, players in Clay County won more than $27.9 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $3 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $12.6 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
