A Missouri Lottery player won a $2.8 million jackpot prize in the Aug. 12 Missouri Lotto drawing when his Quick Pick ticket matched all six numbers drawn.
He purchased the winning ticket at Phillips 66, 3276 Williams St. in Cape Girardeau, but he didn’t check it until a week later.
“We were actually filling up the boat for a weekend on the lake,” he said.
His wife, who was with him at the time, had a strong reaction to the win.
“To me it was just another day, but she was really shocked,” he said.
The winner then shared plans to use the prize money to purchase land.
Lotto is Missouri’s longest running in-state Draw Game with drawings on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The winning numbers on Aug. 12 were 5, 6, 9, 32, 36 and 40. All current and past winning numbers can be found at MOLottery.com.
In FY23, players in Cape Girardeau County won more than $12.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $1.1 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $8.6 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
