On a quick mission to buy household bleach, a Missouri Lottery player stopped by Prospect Convenience, 4656 Prospect Ave. in Kansas City, also picking up a couple of “$1,000,000 Black Diamond” Scratchers tickets while he was there.
“I grabbed the tickets, got my bleach, and I went back home,” he said. “I was scratching it and I thought I won $50 but, as I kept scratching, I couldn’t even believe that there was $50,000 there.”
He added the whole thing felt surreal to him because of the date he purchased the winning ticket.
“I was looking at the number on the ticket, and it was number 19 in the pack,” he said. “And I bought it on the 19th and it was just weird how that happened.”
“$1,000,000 Black Diamond” players have won over $10.5 million in prizes, including one top prize of $1 million. Over $21.6 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including one more top prize of $1 million and two prizes of $50,000.
In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
