A quick stop after washing his car led a Springfield Missouri Lottery player to uncover a $100,000 top prize on a “Full of $500s” Scratchers ticket.

While fueling up at Rapid Roberts, 320 W. Sunshine St. in Springfield, the player realized he had some money left over and decided to buy his wife a Scratchers ticket before deciding to get one for himself.

What happened when he got home completely surprised him.

“I sat down at the table and scratched the first number off, and it was a match,” he said. “(I) scratched off the prize and thought it was $20. Well, I didn’t quite scratch far enough.”

Eventually, he scratched off five prizes of $20,000 – leading to a $100,000 top prize.

“I’m not jumping up and down screaming. I’m kind of stunned,” he shared.

Plans for the money include investing and likely some home improvements.

“It’s just a matter of luck. Being at the right place, at the right time, buying the right thing. It’s just luck,” he laughed.

In FY23, players in Greene County won more than $50 million in Missouri Lottery prizes while retailers received over $4.5 million in commissions and bonuses. Educational programs in the county received more than $27.6 million.
