A Missouri Lottery player trying to decide which vending machine to use for her Scratchers purchase ended up walking away from Gas-N-Shop, 3601 Harry S. Truman Blvd. in St. Charles, with a ticket worth $50,000.
“I was looking at one of (the machines) and saw it only had two of the tickets I wanted left, so I decided to go to the other one,” the winner said.
She purchased a “500X” ticket and stowed it away in her jacket until she was at lunch later that day.
“I got down to the prize and I thought I had won $5,000!” she said.
When her coworker came over to look at it, he pointed out she had missed a multiplier symbol on the ticket.
“He said, ‘You better rethink! That looks like $50,000 to me,’” she said. “So, I clutched it to my chest and said, ‘Oh, my God!’”
“500X” players have won more than $141.8 million in prizes since the $50 game was released. Over $115.7 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including a top prize of $5 million, two prizes of $1 million and 22 additional prizes of $50,000.
In FY24, players in St. Charles County won more than $68.2 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $16.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
