‘When You’re Lucky, You’re Lucky!’ According to Missouri Lottery Winner

Aug. 26, 2024

A longtime Missouri Lottery player doubled his luck when he stopped at QuikTrip, 800 N.E. Woods Chapel Road, in Lee’s Summit – using the $200 prize from one winning Scratchers ticket to purchase another that would reveal a $50,000 prize.

“I only play the $50 tickets,” he explained.  “Since there are only two of them right now, I figured I should play the other one, too!”

He was then shocked to discover he won a $50,000 prize on the “500X Scratchers game.  “It comes when you don’t expect it,” he said. “I sure didn’t see that coming! I’m pretty fired up!”

The winner shared that while claiming his $50,000 prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office on Aug. 21, he purchased tickets from the vending machine in the lobby and won small prizes there, too.

“When you’re lucky, you’re lucky, baby!” he exclaimed.

To date, players of the “500X Scratchers game have claimed over $137.9 million in prizes. Currently there are more than $119.6 million in unclaimed prizes, including a $5 million top prize, two $1 million prizes and 23 additional $50,000 prizes.

In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
