Husband Surprises Wife with $50,000 Powerball Prize

Sep. 05, 2023

A Quick Pick ticket led to a $50,000 Powerball prize in the Aug. 9 drawing for a lucky Missouri Lottery player in Callaway County. The ticket purchased at Pass-N-Gas, 6603 State Road NN in Fulton, provided the perfect opportunity for the winner to surprise his wife.

His ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the Powerball number, to win the $50,000 prize, but he waited to surprise his wife with how much they had won.

“He didn’t tell me how much until I was on my way over to the Lottery Headquarters,” his wife said.

“I said, ‘I’m not going to tell you the amount, but we’ll pay the house off!’” he shared.  “And then I did tell her the amount.”

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. All current and past winning numbers can be found at MOLottery.com.

In FY23, players in Callaway County won more than $8.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $789,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $1.8 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
