A Quick Pick ticket led a Powerball player to a $50,000 prize in the Dec. 27 drawing, but the St. Charles County woman had to wait a while to tell her husband.
The winner shared her story after claiming her prize at the Missouri Lottery’s regional office in St. Louis, including details about purchasing the ticket at Circle K, 1001 Lake St. Louis Blvd. in Lake St. Louis, and later scanning it on the Missouri Lottery mobile app to see if it was a winner.
“It said I had won but didn’t tell me how much,” she said. “So I thought I’d better check this out.”
After she compared her numbers to the winning numbers drawn, she realized she had matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number, to win a $50,000 prize.
“I waited for my husband to wake up because he works nights,” she said. “So I had to sit on it for a few hours!”
Once he did wake up, she said he didn’t believe her.
“He was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding!” she laughed.
The winning numbers on Dec. 27 were 4, 11, 38, 51 and 68 with a Powerball number of 5.
Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.
In FY23, players in St. Charles County won more than $63.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $6.3 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
