A Jackson County couple is celebrating a $50,000 prize on a “500X” Scratchers ticket. The husband picked the $50 game out of a vending machine at QuikTrip, 4024 South Noland Road, in Independence.
“When I scratched it off, I knew I hit something but I didn’t know what it was,” he said.
He soon realized he’d won one of 50 prizes of $50,000 offered in the game.
“I said, ‘Oh, sweet Jesus!’” he laughed.
He said he was so excited when he got home he couldn’t contain himself and had to let his wife know right away.
“I came in the door and I started yelling, ‘Mama! Mama!’” he said. “She didn’t know what it was at first either, but when I told her she was so excited!”
To date, “500X” players have won over $80.9 million. Over $176.7 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including two top prizes of $5 million, two $1 million prizes and 35 more $50,000 prizes.
In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
