The winner of a $100,000 top prize wasn’t immediately convinced she’d won on the Missouri Lottery “$100,000 Diamond Dazzler” Scratchers ticket she bought at Temp Stop, 4411 N.W. Barry Road, in Kansas City.
“I saw 5X and thought, ‘Oh I won $25. That’ll be a tank of gas.’ That’s kind of my joke,” the winner said.
But when she started to scratch the corresponding prize amount to see how much she had won, she went from thinking she had won $500 to thinking it was $5,000 and then, ultimately, realizing she’d uncovered a $100,000 top prize.
“I didn’t get excited at all, because I just knew it couldn’t be true. I expected to go to the office and them tell me that there was a mistake of some sort,” she laughed.
With her win validated, the lucky player shared plans to use the money to pay bills.
Since “$100,000 Diamond Dazzler” was released on Nov, 27, 2023, more than $6.8 million in prizes have been won. There is still more than $12.2 million in unclaimed prizes, including three top prizes of $100,000 and two second prizes of $20,000.
In FY23, players in Platte County won more than $15.7 million in prizes. Retailers received more than $1.3 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $1 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
