A Missouri Lottery player in Jackson County is still excited from her $50,000 top-prize win on a “Crossword Xtreme” Scratchers ticket purchased at Hy-Vee, 310 S.W. Ward Road, in Lee’s Summit.
Originally, she thought she had won $5,000, but she soon realized her prize was 10 times that amount.
“I thought I won $5,000. Well, that’s cool, I’ve never won $5,000 before,” she laughed. “But then I thought, ‘You know what? Let me write it down.’”
After she wrote down all the words she had scratched and matched in her crossword game, she realized how much she had actually won. She then told her husband and, after a brief moment of shock, the two shared their excitement by jumping for joy.
“I could not believe it. I have to say that the lottery is real,” she said. “Real people do win.”
“Crossword Xtreme” is a $3 Scratchers ticket currently offering more than $7.1 million in unclaimed prizes. Four $50,000 top prizes, as well as 14 $5,000 prizes, still remain unclaimed in the game.
In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers received over $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, while more than $15.5 million went to education programs in the county.
