On the way back from helping out a friend with a project, a Missouri Lottery player decided to stop at Road Ranger, 22345 Highway 28 in St. Robert, to buy a Scratchers ticket. The decision not only made use of the money he earned for helping; it will also allow him to purchase his friend’s business.
“A buddy of mine had called me and asked if I could help him out with a job, and I said, ‘Sure,’” the winner explained. “And so he asked if $50 would be fine for helping him, and I said that’s fine.”
Using that $50, he bought a “500X” ticket.
Coincidentally, his friend had just asked him if he was interested in buying out his company since his friend was retiring soon.
When he saw he had won the $5 million prize, he knew right away what he was going to do with it.
“I bought that ticket and I called him back, and I said, ‘I got the money! Your business is sold when you’re ready!’” he said.
Though his friend didn’t believe him at first, the winner had already made up his mind.
“I’m going to make that money work for me!” he added.
“500X” is a $50 game that offers prizes up to $5 million. So far, players have won over $107.7 million on the game and over $149.8 million remain in unclaimed prizes – including one more top prize of $5 million and two $1 million prizes.
In FY23, players in Pulaski County won more than $9.5 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $959,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $715,000 in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
