A Missouri Lottery player in Phelps County had no idea she was about to win a $50,000 top prize when she stopped to pick up her favorite Scratchers ticket, “Treasure Hunt.”
“It’s always been one of my favorites,” she explained. “It used to be in a gold ticket and had a few different things. I’ve always just liked that game.”
After buying the ticket at Midwest Petroleum, 617 N. Jefferson St. in St. James, she waited to scratch it until she got home. She said what happened next was shocking.
“I almost threw up,” she laughed. “I went straight into shock. My face got real hot and I almost hyperventilated. I was like ‘Holy crap!’”
Her plans for the money include buying a new car.
“Treasure Hunt” is a $3 Scratchers ticket with three additional top prizes of $50,000 currently unclaimed.
Through Aug. 20, players can enter their eligible Scratchers tickets into the “Choose Your Dream Adventure” second-chance summer promotion for a chance to win in the “Dream Vacation or “Dream Green” drawings. “Weekly Cash” drawings will also be held throughout the promotion.
In FY23, players in Phelps County won more than $8.4 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, while retailers received over $843,000 in commissions and bonuses. Educational programs in the county received more than $2.6 million.
