A Missouri Lottery player in Independence was in for a big surprise when the Powerball ticket she purchased at Food & Fuel Expresso, 4200 S. Lee’s Summit Road, held a larger prize than she expected.
"When I took it in, I thought it was just for $100," the winner recalled. "I said to the clerk, 'I don't know how much you guys pay out. I think maybe up to $100?'"
“The clerk said, 'This is more than $100!' she explained. “I was quite surprised, to say the least.”
Her ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, in the May 25 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. The winning numbers were 6, 33, 35, 36 and 64, with a Powerball of 24. Had her ticket matched all five white-ball numbers (plus the Powerball) she would have won a $120 million jackpot.
"I just missed one number. I can't even imagine that!" she laughed.
Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Tonight’s jackpot is estimated at $44 million.
Players who purchased tickets in Jackson County in FY23 won more than $108.7 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $15.5 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
