Family Comes First for $100,000 Lottery Winner

Jul. 01, 2024

The first call a Scratchers player in Rock Hill made when he realized he had won $100,000 was to his daughter, whom he now plans to purchase a new car.

“That’s what family is about,” the winner shared.

Originally just planning to stop for gas at On the Run, 9401 Manchester Road, the decision to buy a Missouri Lottery “$100,000 Diamond Dazzler” Scratchers ticket was spur of the moment.

“I was standing in line because they were a little busy, and I thought, ‘Why not try it?’” the winner shared.

He said, in hind sight, waiting until he got home to play the game was the right choice.

“I probably wouldn’t have made it home,” he laughed, noting it took a minute for realization to set in. “I thought, ‘This can’t even be possible.’ I thought ‘Okay, maybe it’s a misprint or something like that.’ The odds of all those millions of people and then me getting it is bizarre.”

“$100,000 Diamond Dazzler” is a $5 ticket. So far, players have won more than $14.7 million in prizes, while $4.3 million currently remains unclaimed – including one more $100,000 top prize.

In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. Missouri Lottery retailers received over $20 million in commissions and bonuses, while more than $76 million went to education programs in the county.
