A Missouri Lottery player won a $100,000 top prize while she was running errands in Richmond Heights, thanks to a request made by her sister.
"I really wasn't looking to get tickets that day,” the winner explained. “(My sister) asked if I was stopping to get gas, and I said, ‘Yeah.’ She said, ‘Can you pick me up a couple of (Lottery) tickets?’”
She agreed and stopped at QuikTrip, 1530 S. Hanley Road in Richmond Heights, where she purchased several “$100,000 Diamond Dazzler” Scratchers games.
“I wasn't going to get me any tickets, but when I got up there I was like, 'Just give me six of the same $5 tickets,’” she recalled. “Then I got in my car and tore the first two tickets off for my sister.”
The four remaining tickets she’d bought for herself paid off in a big way when she realized her ticket held one of the game’s $100,000 top prizes.
“I was in total shock. My heart started beating real bad and I was shaking. I was like, ‘No way. This is not happening!’” she laughed. “It could have very much been (my sister’s) tickets.”
She shared plans to use some of the winnings to take a family vacation.
In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $76 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
