A Missouri Lottery player knew her husband had stopped on his way home at Busy Corner, 101 E. Highway 54 in Vandalia, but she had no idea he had bought a “King of Spades” Scratchers ticket that would contain one of the game’s top prizes of $100,000.
“He gave me one and he had one too,” the player said. “And I had the one with all of the money!”
Her husband chimed in that he had also won on his ticket.
“The one I had was a $15 winner!” he joked.
When his wife first told him she had won, he didn’t yet know the size of her prize.
“She came downstairs all excited, and I thought she had won $1,000 or something. But it was a lot more!” he said.
So far, “King of Spades” players have won over $7 million in prizes. There are over $12 million in unclaimed prizes, including three more top prizes of $100,000 and five $20,000 prizes.
In FY24, players in Marion County won more than $6.9 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $705,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $832,000 in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
